当然，我没有理由把埋怨的矛头直接指向吸烟人士。因为在我被选为医生助理的学习其间，对烟民患者进行了的调查。从结果看来，近95 %患者，尤其是许多接受过相关教育的人，是多次戒烟后续吸才最终致病的。他们使用过市面所谓的戒烟妙方，但始终没有摆脱香烟的依赖。可见，单纯把健康教育和法规因素，视为新世纪公共场合吸烟问题的根源，其实忽略了烟民的感受，忽略了烟瘾使他们欲罢难休的痛苦而矛盾的心态。
“为何不通过培养出不含有害成分却依然保持香烟原味的烟草，帮助烟民摆脱烟瘾呢？”我大胆构想，“ 或者，利用现今已取得相当成效的诸如转基因等生物技术，提取出烟草的有效成分基因，转移到大麦等植物上，生产出可以食用的香烟面包、香烟口香糖等等，不就既满足了烟民吸烟的愿望，又避免了周围的人们通过呼吸道感染相关疾病的可能了么？”不过，很可惜，在仅把生物学当作医学专业考试要求大环境下中学习的我，缺乏相关的生物知识的深入学习。
     事实上，我从没放弃过对疾病生物治疗研究的愿望，何况，我也不赞同，认为研究重任仅该由生物学家承担，或是认为医学与生物学研究方向截然不同的观点。没错，科学界曾掀起的生物的医学研究热潮，已被尚无突破的结果和昂贵的项目经费所冷却。当前全球恐怖袭击的恐慌、信息产业的飞速发展及日益激化的市场竞争，使我们转移了科研的重心，甚至连少数生物学者也将生物学定义在当今的冷门行业范围。可，谁又能回避AIDS、Cancer患者直线上升的事实，以及它们给我们带来的心灵阴影呢？谁会忘记当SARS，疯牛病、禽流感等新型疾病铺天盖地朝世人袭来，全世界对其认知仅处于“初级阶段”的社会悲哀？难道，这些都不足以让您觉得，世界局势及经济的动荡，是人类通过共同作战可克服的困难，倒是对层出不穷的新型疾病的未知，会剥夺我们最基本的生存权利吗？人类为何不把剧增的外星生物探索热情，分一些在我们周围的地球生物上呢？
我相信人类不会轻易放弃继续生存的权利，那么自然也不该放弃对疑难杂症的攻破。其实，科学家已发现诸如AIDS、禽流感等最初是经动物传给人类的事实，暗示生物学与新型疾病的产生有着密切关系。也提示我们可以尝试从大自然相关的动植物中寻找疾病的治疗方案。因此，生物学为主体的人类疾病医疗的研究，必有着光明的前途！当然，与传统生物医学研究不同，我指的是运用生物学和医学双向思维的治疗研究。这需要我们将生物学研究对象——动植物，放在与医疗的对象——人类的同等重要地位，抱着向动植物“请教”心态才有可能索取疾病治疗的信息！
  现实让我懂得，仅凭借对医学的兴趣，单单掌握医学知识，远不能把握住开创新型生物医学研究的机遇。而大一活动的过多参与，使我没有更多的时间拓展生物的学习。更何况我接受的是中国“压缩”式的医学教育——即凭优异的成绩，在结束中学课程的学习后，直接进入医学专业课程的学习。我感到自己失去了很多奠定医学基础的知识细致学习机会。而对医学热爱的加深让我意识到，掌握巩固牢固的基础科学知识，是向更高医学领域进军必不可少的条件。
